spectrum - being coachable

  • not everyone is coachable
  • and the individuals who are not coachable will tell you via their actions that they are not coachable
  • for things to change, it is the responsibility of the individual to develop that area and a good coach will give you the bitter pills (metaphor) that you need
  • but if, for any given reason the individual doesn't want to do the work, then there is no point to continue focusing on the horses that do not want to drink the water

"You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink (the water)."

  • on the other hand of the spectrum, we do not really know what struggles the individual is facing and how their worldview is shaped
  • as a coach you need a fair bit of patience and within reason a coach should not be quick to cut a mentee loose (again, within reason and on a case-by-case basis)
  • a coach should also not place a firm judgement on a former mentee, as people change. and individuals evolve at a pace that can and within reason makes sense to them

  • in an interconnected reality an existing or former mentee will continue operating in the wider reality
  • they will continue to think and act in a reality and their actions will have a direct impact on themselves and others
  • and if you think about it, pollution or enlightenment on the other hand is first a set of realities that emerges (or to the contrary) in the mind
  • a good coach must help the mentee continue to develop a virtuous life. realizing that there are many different ways of thinking and meditating on how best this can be achieved. and this is an area that we have been thinking about and developing for thousands of years
  • for the mentee that we have to let go, we must still continue to create many different avenues, via which the former mentee would have a chance or many chances to continue developing their inner self
  • within reason, we must be kind. I know not anything about bushido, but there are many reasons why we must be kind and patient
  • so even the focus is towards finding the horses that are thirsty and focus on their needs. still, there must be avenues whereby the horses that currently find themselves distracted, their must be ways via which the means to impart the necessary education should exist for all horses. and not only the ones that excel or do their assignments on time
